How this site works and makes money

Where our facts come from, who is listed, what each field means, how this site makes money (no electrician pays it), and how a business can fix or remove its listing.

Sources and refresh dates

Colorado DORA license data (public domain)Electrical contractor registrations: business name, mailing city, license number, status, first issued, expiry, and DORA's lookup linkWeeklyNov 7, 2026
Colorado Secretary of State business entities (public domain)Entity status and formation date, only for exact name matches (207 of 387 businesses)WeeklyNov 7, 2026

Coming later: counts of residential electrical permits from the public monthly reports of PPRBD (Pikes Peak Regional Building Department), shown only when we're sure the permit holder is the same business, and never with homeowner addresses or permit numbers.

We don't use Google Maps, Yelp or BBB data, and we don't show ratings or reviews. DORA offers its data for research and doesn't guarantee it, so every listing links to DORA's own lookup to check.

Who is listed

What each field means

"DORA shows: {status} · expiry on record: {date}"
DORA's own words, copied exactly. We don't relabel them. Colorado electrical registrations expire on September 30 every three years. A registration can still show "Active" with a past expiry date while a renewal is processed; we say so next to the date. Check DORA for the current status.
"This state registration first issued {year}"
When DORA first issued this contractor registration. It isn't the same as years of experience.
"Colorado Secretary of State shows: {status}, formed {date}"
The business entity's status in the state's records, copied exactly ("Good Standing", "Delinquent" when a state filing is overdue, and so on). Shown only when the name on the DORA registration matches exactly one Secretary of State record based in El Paso or Teller County. Otherwise we leave it blank rather than guess.
"Check license history on DORA"
Every profile has the same link to DORA's record, where any public discipline appears. We don't summarize it.
"Contact this business"
The state records have no phone numbers or websites, so every listing gets the same two links: a web search for the business name and city, and DORA's lookup. Any business can send us its phone and website through the correction form; we'd show them for that business in the same place and style as everyone else's.

We never show street addresses, people's names, ratings or reviews.

Why the order changes

The list is shuffled at random each time the page loads: one even shuffle, nothing weighted, the same for every business. Without JavaScript the list shows in A–Z order. You can also sort A–Z or by the year the state registration was first issued. Neither the shuffle nor any sort uses anything except the published facts on the page. No score, no "#1", nothing highlighted. It is not a ranking, and the order can never be bought.

Money and this site

This guide takes no money from electricians. No one pays to be listed, to be placed higher, to change what we say about them or anyone else, or to receive requests from this site.

  1. No sponsor slot, no paid partner box, no quote form, no exclusivity, and no "recommended" picks.
  2. Every listing gets the same "Contact this business" links, in the same place and the same style.
  3. Future homeowner tools will end with a safety note and a link to the full list for your town. Nothing else.
  4. Businesses that use the owner's software are listed by the same published rules as everyone, and get nothing different here.
  5. No mark on any profile says who uses the owner's software. The About page explains the relationship without naming anyone.
  6. Any listed business can send its phone, website and service answers for free through the correction form.
  7. The correction form has no marketing sign-up.

What payment can never buy

  1. A place, order or prominence in the directory, filters, town pages or search.
  2. Any change to anyone's listed facts, service answers or permit counts, the payer's own included.
  3. Removal or hiding of facts about anyone; anyone else's inclusion or exclusion.
  4. Tool results, inputs, defaults, bands, wording or cost numbers.
  5. Articles, FAQs, or any "best", "top", "recommended", "vetted", "screened" or "trusted" label. The site uses none of these for anyone.
  6. Exclusivity of any kind (towns, services, job types), or the right to block others.
  7. Any homeowner data, or any software customer's data.
  8. Software customers get nothing on this guide. No software term, credit or referral reward is ever a perk here.

The one relationship to know about: the person who runs this guide also sells business software (websites and office tools) to electricians. Some of those electricians may be listed here. We don't say which ones. They are listed by the same rules as everyone, with the same facts and the same contact links. Buying the software never buys anything on this site, and nothing on this site is part of a software deal.

Coming later, maybe: quote requests

We might one day let homeowners send quote requests through this site. Not before late 2027, only if people find the site useful, and only after a lawyer reviews the terms. If we do, these rules will apply, and we'll post the date here first:

Until then, there is no quote-request form on this site.

Homeowner tools

Our planned tools (panel check, panel upgrade cost, "do I need a permit?") are not live yet. Before any goes live, two licensed electricians check every answer, and at least one has no business relationship with the site's owner. Results will never depend on who uses the owner's software. Tools will give estimates only, never wiring instructions.

Data firewall

Business data from any software customer (their leads, prices, jobs and customers) never feeds this site. This site uses only public records and what businesses send through the correction form. It is built with no connection to any customer's database, and nothing flows from this site to the owner's software.

Corrections and removal

  1. Every profile has a link: "Is this your business? Correct or remove this listing". It opens the correction form.
  2. We reply within 2 business days and fix or hide the field within 5 business days.
  3. DORA and Secretary of State facts are corrected at the source (DORA or the Secretary of State); we link to them and pull the data again every week. If we matched something wrongly, we fix it at once.
  4. Any business can ask to be removed completely, or to show license facts only. We do it and log it. It doesn't affect anyone else's listing.
  5. Legal complaints go to the site owner the same day. We take the item down first, then review it.
